LOUISVILLE VEGAN JERKY COMPANY REVIEW

LEGIT.  If there’s one word to describe this jerky, I can’t think of a better word (though I’m open to suggestions).  Other words that come to mind are: tasty, delicious, unreal, remarkable,  and best-vegan-jerky-I’ve-ever-had.  I first tried this LEGIT stuff a few years ago when I was sitting at Base Camp Coffee in Louisville, Kentucky.  (NOTE: for those of you visiting the Red River Gorge, this place is next to Trader Joes in Louisville and sells da goods) Anyways…I bought it, it was delicious.  And that was that.  For a couple years I didn’t really see the LEGIT stuff much anywhere.  I moved from Colorado, I traveled around in the van (with the cats), and then I ended up in El Paso, Texas. (Hello, Hueco Tanks).

And then the lightbulb went off in my brain. I went to their website: http://lvjco.com/ where you can order online directly through them!!!!!  Also noteworthy: they offer a Vegan Jerky of the Month club – once a month they mail out 3 bags of jerky, including limited edition small batch flavors like Buffalo Dill!  I REALY, REALLY HOPE THEY KEEP THIS FLAVOR!!!  After sharing it out in Hueco Tanks- we all LOVE it. omg.

Ok, so there are many flavors to suit all palates, including Paulette’s Maple Bacon, Enid’s Perfect Pepperoni, Tod’s Smoked Chipotle, Pete’s Smoked Black Pepper….and my favorite – Reuben’s Smoky Carolina BBQ.  Wow. Wow. Wow.  Yes, I’ve tried them all.  Yes, they are all tasty.  Yes, even the meat-eaters love them!  I have to say- the Carolina BBQ is so redonkulous.  It makes me smile every time.  It’s officially my favorite.

They also sell Vegan Toppins’!  So far I have tried the Bacon Bits, but they also sell Taco Fiesta Bits and Pepperoni Bits.  I’ve topped salads, added to chili, and baked pizza with them! HELL YES. Great texture, good flavor.  It’s such a nice way to spruce up your meal!

A few questions and answers for you:

What is the jerky made of? The main ingredient is Texturized Soy Protein and flavors/spices such as: onion, garlic, salt, olive oil, vinegar, chipotle pepper, ancho chili powder, yellow mustard, brown sugar.  I’m impressed with the minimal ingredients used.

Should I let my meat-eater friends try it? Yes. I’ve shared the love whenever I’m out climbing and so far my meat-eater friends are happy with the product! However- I can’t speak for everyone.

Should I buy it?  Yes, please support small business.  Occasionally they have bad ass online sales and you can get free shipping as well.  Otherwise I’ve seen it for sale at Wholefoods and Sprouts.

Honestly, Louisville Vegan Jerky Company is a great example of business done right.  High quality product + hard work ethic = successful small business. Visit their website at http://lvjco.com/ and watch their rad (and hilarious) new video!!!

P.S. The photo below is a ring-tailed cat who has tried on more than one occasion to steal my jerky.
